Answers to common questions about Next Commute. If yours isn't here, email [email protected] and a person will reply.
Where does the data come from?
From Transport for NSW's Open Data Hub: the published timetables for buses, trains, metro, ferries and light rail, live vehicle positions every 15 seconds, and live departure predictions every 30 seconds. Journey plans come from Transport for NSW's trip planner.
Why is a departure late, early or missing?
A departure with a pulsing dot is live: its time comes from the vehicle's own prediction and updates as it moves. One without a dot is the timetable time, because that service isn't reporting live yet. Changes and cancellations can take a few minutes to reach the app. School-only services are not shown.
Why can't I see stops near me?
Next Commute needs your location for the nearby list. Open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Location Services, choose Next Commute and pick While Using the App. You can still search for any stop without it.
A stop or departure is wrong. How do I report it?
Every stop shows its number (for example #2000223). Email [email protected] with that number, the route, the time and what you saw. We check it against Transport for NSW's data and pass errors in the data on to them.
Does it work offline?
Stop names and locations are stored on your phone, so you can search stops without a connection. Live departures, vehicle positions and journey plans need one.
